The vampire genre has developed fast and become immensly popular. Here are a few overviews of popular teen vampire books.

- 'Twilight' series by Stephanie Mayer: Teen romance where Bella falls in love with a vampire in her class. Engaging read. Well written though little change of scenery and a mostly emotional plot line. This is the reason the movie does not do justice to it. The first three books need no rating but for Breaking Dawn I would suggest PG +12 (Also falls under teen romance).

- 'Vampire Academy' by Richelle Mead: Vampire academy is a harry potter style school based vampire series. Vampires are a species. They are not converted bit born. There are mainly two species- the vampire who survive on blood, are physically weak, and are arrogant and rich. There are vampire monarchs, politics, and a huge community. Their saliva is addictive, and they take blood from voluntary donors who are basically junkies addicted to their bite. They also wield various types of magic.
The other species who coincide with their community are 'damphairs'. They are the children of humans and vampires, or mostly damphairs and vampires. Damphairs could not reproduce on their own (being a mixed breed) but they could do so with vampires. Damphairs are physically strong and fast (have no magic) and usually serve vampires as body guards or choose to take up prostitution. The school teaches damphair children regular basic studies + bodyguard and fighting skills, while teaching vampire children more normal academic curriculum, with a combination of teaching control over their feild of magic.
The story is about the friendship between a an orphaned aristocrat vampire girl and a tough bold abandoned Damphair. Their romantic interests as well as the many politics/ frinedships surrounding them make up the plot. They are often targeted by assassins.
